Telangana SIR: BLOs to collect documents from voters at their homes, says CEO

Hyderabad, Oct 1 (UNI) Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudharsan Reddy on Thursday said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would visit voters who received notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and collect the required documents directly from them to avoid inconvenience.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the Election Commission of India (ECI) had changed the procedure under which people were earlier required to visit designated locations to submit documents. BLOs would now collect the documents and upload them through the BLO app. A single family member can submit documents on behalf of other family members who received notices.
Reddy said notices had been issued to 98 per cent of the 92,84,247 electors identified under anomaly and unmapped categories. About 68 lakh cases had been processed, with more than 54 lakh electors included in the main electoral roll. The remaining cases would be processed by collecting the required documents, with the process continuing until November 5, he said.
He clarified that hearings were no longer required and that the exercise was primarily limited to document collection. In cases involving death, migration or lack of documents, EROs could issue speaking orders and obtain information and documents online without requiring individuals or family members to appear in person.
On Khairatabad, the CEO said around 75,000–80,000 migrated or shifted electors had been removed from the draft roll, while another 80,000 were identified under anomaly categories. Notices were issued and more than 45,000 had already been restored to the main roll.
Reddy said the SIR deadline had already been extended from October 19 to November 9. He added that BLOs are government employees, including Anganwadi teachers, municipal and other departmental staff. Voters can approach the concerned AERO or ERO if a BLO fails to visit their residence.
On electoral roll changes, he said additions, deletions and corrections were processed through Forms 6, 7 and 8 respectively, and clarified that Form 7 applications were submitted by individuals and not on a political party-wise basis.
