Rapper Vedan defames PM, alleges BJP councillor

Kochi, May 24 (UNI) Rapper Vedan, who was arrested in a drug case on April 28, 2025, has courted a controversy as his recently released song is allegedly defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Raising a complaint against Hirandas Murali, known professionally as Rapper Vedan, Palakkad BJP Municipal Councillor VS Minimol alleged that Vedan, who has recently released a song that contains content which is not only defamatory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but also seeks to incite social discord by using caste-based slurs and derogatory remarks aimed at dividing the Hindu community.
He has made unsubstantiated, disrespectful, and offensive remarks about the Prime Minister, which not only malign his personal and political image but also undermine the dignity of the highest constitutional office in the country.
Alleging that the lyrics include caste-based defamatory language that appears to deliberately target and vilify particular Hindu castes, she said this is a blatant attempt to incite hatred, resentment, and division within the Hindu society.
She said the content of the song, circulated widely via online platforms, can disturb public order, create communal tensions, and pose a potential threat to national harmony.
In a letter to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), she demanded an inquiry under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Information Technology Act, Defamation of public figures (Section 500 IPC), Promoting enmity between different groups (Section 153A IPC), Statements conducing to public mischief (Section 505 IPC).
Rapper Vedan, who was arrested related to a drug case, is on bail and conducting Live Concerts involving lakhs of his fan followers and inciting violence and hatred, she added.
