Hyderabad Traffic Police seize 100 vehicles over fake number plates

Hyderabad, Oct 19 (UNI) Hyderabad Traffic Police have registered 100 criminal cases and seized 100 vehicles, including 88 two-wheelers and 12 four-wheelers, for allegedly using fake, forged, tampered or unauthorised registration number plates during the past eight months, Traffic police said on Monday..
The enforcement action was part of a special drive aimed at curbing the misuse of vehicle registration numbers, preventing evasion of traffic regulations and strengthening road safety and crime prevention.
Fraudulent number plates were being used to conceal vehicle identities, evade traffic enforcement and avoid statutory requirements, said D. Joel Davis, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad City, in a release here..
The police said the use of fake or altered registration plates posed challenges to vehicle identification, criminal investigations and legal accountability.
Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that all vehicle owners must comply with registration number plate specifications prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, including applicable High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) requirements.
The use of fake registration numbers, altered digits, unauthorised fonts, decorative lettering, stickers and other modifications that conceal or misrepresent genuine registration details is prohibited, the release said.
Vehicle owners have been advised to ensure that their registration plates are genuine, clearly visible, legible and maintained in accordance with prescribed standards.
The police said special enforcement drives would continue, with traffic personnel maintaining vigilance and initiating legal action against offenders.
Citizens were also urged to report suspected cases of fraudulent number plates to the concerned police authorities for verification and necessary action.
