Hyd:Task Force nabs inter-state gang involved in cattle, mobile shop thefts

Hyderabad, Sep 19 (UNI) The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, in coordination with Khammam Police, has apprehended an inter-state gang allegedly involved in 13 cattle theft cases across Telangana and multiple shutter-lifting thefts at mobile-phone shops in Telangana and Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
The gang allegedly stole cattle by using sedative injections and later shifted to targeting mobile-phone shops, with the stolen devices being disposed of through an organised network extending to Mumbai and Bangladesh, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said in a press conference here.
He said the Task Force’s Jubilee Hills Zone team and Khammam Police apprehended the accused on August 18 based on credible information.
The Commissioner said cash of Rs 22 lakh, 15 mobile phones, three cars and a number plate were seized from the accused.
According to Sajjanar, Md Tabrez and Mohd Rafeeq were allegedly involved in all 13 cattle thefts, while Mohammed Zubair Akthar and Mohammed Naveed participated in some of the offences.
P Sai Reddy allegedly supplied Xylazine injections used to sedate the cattle.
During the investigation, police found that the gang allegedly targeted cattle sheds in isolated locations during Ramzan and Bakrid, when demand for cattle was high, he said.
The accused allegedly administered Xylazine injections to make the cattle drowsy before loading and transporting them to markets, where they were sold at lower prices, the Commissioner said.
After the demand for cattle declined following Ramzan and Bakrid, the gang allegedly returned to shutter-lifting thefts targeting mobile-phone shops.
On June 11, Tabrez, Farahan and Rafeeq allegedly broke into Sonovision mobile-phone shop in Khammam. Police said the stolen phones were disposed of through contacts in Mumbai, with Mohd Zahed Khan alias Raja Bhai allegedly procuring them for about Rs 20 lakh.
The gang allegedly subsequently travelled to Madhya Pradesh and committed two mobile-shop thefts in Ujjain on July 10.
They later allegedly planned another theft in Gujarat but abandoned the attempt after encountering police patrols and meeting with a road accident, he said.
He said the investigation also uncovered a network for disposing of stolen mobile phones through Mumbai and Bangladesh.
Zahed allegedly procured stolen phones from different states through intermediaries and routed them through his network for onward disposal in Bangladesh.
The phones were allegedly transported from Mumbai to Kolkata and then moved into Bangladesh through unauthorised waterways, with the network also allegedly involving suspected hawala transactions, which police said were being verified.
The accused were apprehended in Hyderabad on August 17 while allegedly planning another theft.
They had procured a Volkswagen Vento for committing further offences in the city, the Police Comissioner added.
The apprehension was carried out under the supervision of DCP Commissioner’s Task Force Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, IPS, with the participation of Jubilee Hills Zone Task Force Inspector Ch Yadender, SIs D Ravi Raj and G Sandeep Reddy and other personnel, in coordination with Khammam Police.
