MP Sribharat calls for modern technology to improve road quality in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Sept 21 (UNI) Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat on Monday called for adoption of modern technologies and scientific monitoring systems to improve the quality and durability of road infrastructure in the city.
The MP, along with GVMC Commissioner, met CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) Director Chalamuri Ravi Shekhar at the GVMC-Smart City office on Beach Road and discussed road development, quality standards and modern construction technologies.
Sribharat stressed the need to obtain technical inputs from national-level institutions such as CRRI before taking up new road projects to strengthen tender specifications and construction standards.
The meeting discussed the use of network survey vehicles, advanced cameras and digital, data-driven inspection systems for monitoring construction quality, pavement thickness and compliance with prescribed standards.
The MP also called for an Integrated Street Design approach covering footpaths, drainage systems, junctions and other street-level infrastructure along with road development.
He stressed the need for strict quality standards while restoring roads dug up for electricity, water supply and other utility works, with clear responsibility assigned to the concerned agencies.
The meeting also discussed integrated planning for future public transport systems, including BRTS, Metro, electric mobility and rapid transit systems, keeping Visakhapatnam's growing transportation requirements in view.
Strengthening coordination among CRRI, GVMC and VMRDA for comprehensive road development, improvement of technical standards and adoption of modern road monitoring systems was also discussed.
The possibility of an MoU among the three institutions for future technical cooperation was considered.
Sribharat said the objective was to ensure effective utilisation of public funds and develop durable, high-quality road infrastructure in Visakhapatnam in line with international standards.
