KPSC probe widens, 10-plus exams under ED scanner

Bengaluru, Oct 4 (UNI) What began as a probe into alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission's (KPSC) veterinary officers' recruitment examination is widening into a broader investigation, with more than 10 recruitment examinations now under the scanner of investigating agencies.
The widening probe is examining whether the alleged malpractice was confined to a single question-paper leak or points to a larger network that operated across multiple KPSC recruitments, including the PDO and KAS examinations.
The investigation is particularly focused on allegations that candidates were offered government jobs in return for money, with middlemen allegedly acting as the link between candidates and persons connected with the recruitment process. Investigators are also examining allegations that lakhs of rupees changed hands in return for favourable treatment in recruitment examinations.
The alleged role of KPSC officials, members and intermediaries is also being examined as investigators piece together the recruitment network and the financial transactions linked to it.
The veterinary officers' recruitment examination has emerged as a key breakthrough in the investigation. The probe into the examination has brought under scrutiny the role of former KPSC examination controller Gyanesh Kumar Gangwar and alleged intermediary Basavaraj Kannale, besides others.
Investigators are now examining whether the modus operandi allegedly detected in the veterinary officers' examination was replicated in other recruitment tests conducted during the period under scrutiny.
The examination controller and other persons connected with the conduct of examinations have been questioned as part of the investigation, with investigators seeking details about the preparation, handling and circulation of question papers and the subsequent recruitment process.
The probe has also brought KPSC members, including Shanta Hosamani, under scrutiny over alleged irregularities in recruitment. Investigators are examining the possible links between officials, intermediaries and candidates and whether any financial transactions were made to influence recruitment outcomes.
The focus has now expanded to earlier examinations, with allegations of irregularities surfacing in more than 10 recruitment tests. Apart from the PDO and veterinary officer examinations, the KAS recruitment process is also among those attracting scrutiny.
The widening investigation has raised a larger question over the integrity of KPSC's recruitment system: whether the alleged veterinary examination leak was an isolated case or part of a wider pattern of manipulation involving multiple examinations.
KPSC aspirants who have approached the authorities have demanded that all recruitment examinations suspected of having been compromised be investigated and that the probe should not be restricted to any single examination.
With the investigation widening from an alleged paper leak to the possible involvement of officials, members, intermediaries and candidates across multiple recruitments, the ED and CID probes are now expected to establish whether the allegations point to a common network operating across KPSC examinations.
