Kerala minister assures legal aid, protection to woman assaulted in Saudi Arabia

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 4 (UNI) Kerala Women and Child Development Minister Bindu Krishna has assured comprehensive legal assistance and protection to a woman who is undergoing treatment at the Kollam District Hospital after allegedly suffering brutal assault and physical abuse in Saudi Arabia.
Describing the violence allegedly inflicted on the woman as exceptionally cruel, the Minister directed the authorities to initiate stringent legal action against those responsible and ensure that the survivor receives all necessary support.
Currently in Gujarat in connection with meetings of the Dairy Development Department, Ms Krishna spoke to the woman over the phone and gathered details about the incident and her present condition.
The Minister also spoke to the City Police Commissioner and instructed the police to take appropriate legal action in the matter and ensure strong action against the accused.
She stressed that the woman's safety should be accorded the highest priority and directed the District Women Protection Officer to visit her at the hospital, assess her situation and ensure that all necessary legal assistance and protection are provided.
The Women and Child Development Department would extend all possible support to the woman, the Minister said, adding that the government and the department stood with her during the difficult situation.
Following the Minister's directions, a team of public representatives led by Kollam Deputy Mayor Dr Udaya Sukumaran, along with social workers led by Krishnaveni Sharma, visited the woman at the Kollam District Hospital and conveyed details of her condition and the developments to the Minister.
The Minister also directed the concerned officials to closely monitor the woman's situation and ensure that she receives the required assistance and protection.
