Permanent venues for documentary, short film screenings to be set up: Kerala CM

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 30 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Wednesday said permanent venues would be established in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode for screening documentaries and short films.
Inaugurating the concluding session of the 18th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) at Kairali Theatre here, the Chief Minister also announced that a cultural park would be established in Kozhikode in memory of renowned writer and Jnanpith award winner M T Vasudevan Nair.
He said preliminary work for the proposed Film City in Kochi had already begun and the government would take steps to develop Kerala as a film tourism destination. Facilities would also be arranged for filmmakers to undertake film shoots in the State, he added.
Referring to the seven films that could not be screened at the festival due to the denial of screening permission, Satheesan said it amounted to an intrusion into the freedom of film selection.

He also presented awards for the best fiction and non-fiction films at the festival, besides the Kumar Talkies Award for Best Long Documentary Editing and the Shashi Anand Memorial Award for Documentary Cinematography.
