Spices Board discusses World Bank, IFC partnership to strengthen spices value chain

Kochi, Nov 4 (UNI) Spices Board Chairperson Adv. Sangeetha Viswanathan held discussions with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on strengthening common infrastructure and developing an integrated value chain for the spices sector.
She attended a stakeholder consultation organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) in New Delhi under its Technical Assistance programme on “Enhancing Job Creation and Competitiveness in India’s Food Processing Sector”.
The discussions explored the scope for strengthening existing common infrastructure facilities for the spices sector and the possibility of IFC extending financial support for developing an end-to-end value chain, potentially through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Highlighting the need to ensure safe and traceable spices from the farm level, Viswanathan emphasised the adoption of technology, improved traceability mechanisms, reduced pesticide usage, lower production costs and development of skilled manpower.
The IFC team expressed interest in further discussions with the Spices Board to explore the proposal in greater detail.
