Siddharth App to provide anonymous ragging complaint facility for Kerala students
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 4 (UNI) Students in Kerala will soon have a platform to report ragging and other campus-related grievances without revealing their identity, with the launch of the 'Siddharth Student Welfare App' on Wednesday.
The app is designed to strengthen student safety and provide a confidential mechanism for reporting ragging, seeking assistance and communicating safety-related concerns to the authorities. It will also enable students to submit audio complaints without disclosing their identity.
The launch forms part of a series of initiatives by the Higher Education Department to improve student welfare and promote scientific temper in campuses.
Chief Minister V D Satheesan will inaugurate the first sub-centre of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Scientific Temper at Government Women's College here. Higher Education Minister Roji M John will preside over the function, which will also be attended by Transport Minister C P John.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Scientific Temper project, implemented under the Kerala State Higher Education Council, seeks to promote scientific outlook, humanism and a culture of rational inquiry among students.
The initiative aims to take scientific awareness to 1.5 million young people and the general public through 300 centres across the state. Handbooks and video reels will also be developed to supplement an online course on scientific temper prepared in collaboration with C-DIT.
The Student Aspiration Survey and the online course will also be formally launched at the function.
Meanwhile, the draft Siddharth Anti-Ragging Act is under the consideration of the state government. The proposed legislation is intended to provide a statutory framework for the app and facilitate the constitution of a State Anti-Ragging Commission.
The initiatives are aimed at creating a safer and more progressive higher education environment while encouraging scientific thinking and ensuring the welfare of students, Higher Education Minister Roji M John said.
