Tirupati: SVIMS to Focus on Quality Healthcare, Medical Education and Research

Tirupati, Oct 10 (UNI) Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Director and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gudaru Jagadesh has directed all departments to strengthen patient care, medical education and scientific research, stressing that close coordination among departments is essential to achieving the highest standards of healthcare.
Addressing a review meeting with Heads of Broad Specialty and other departments at Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women here on Saturday, he said SVIMS aimed to emerge as a model medical university of national and international repute.
Dr. Jagadesh called for timely diagnosis and treatment, improved patient safety, reduced waiting times and effective coordination in managing emergencies and critically ill patients.
He also stressed the need for strict adherence to infection control measures, safe medication practices and surgical safety protocols.
Emphasising medical education, he directed departments to strengthen clinical training, conduct regular academic programmes and review postgraduate students' progress and research activities every month.
He asked each department to identify at least three priority research areas and submit a one-year action plan.
He also encouraged faculty members to pursue national and international research grants, promote collaborative research and publish quality papers in recognised scientific journals.
The SVIMS chief stressed the importance of improving diagnostic accuracy, ensuring timely investigations and promptly communicating critical test results to treating doctors. He called for better coordination among clinical departments, diagnostic services and nursing personnel to improve treatment outcomes.
He further directed SVIMS Hospital to organise free rural medical camps and healthcare camps under the Pink Bus initiative in rural and agency areas to extend specialised and super-specialty medical services to underserved communities.
Calling for greater transparency, discipline and accountability, Dr. Jagadesh instructed departmental heads to establish measurable performance indicators, prepare time-bound action plans and periodically assess their implementation.
He said the SVIMS administration would extend the necessary support to departments to improve healthcare delivery, medical training and research.
All faculty members, doctors and staff should work collectively to provide compassionate, patient-centred care and strengthen the institution's reputation, he added.
