SCR Conducts Cleanliness Drive Across 3,730 Railway Units

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) South Central Railway (SCR) conducted a cleanliness drive across 3,730 railway units and mobilised 21,458 participants as part of the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign held from September 17 to October 2, surpassing the target set by the Railway Board.
The campaign, organised under the theme ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’, covered railway stations, trains, offices, colonies, health units, workshops, maintenance depots and other railway premises across the Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded divisions and workshops under SCR.
As part of the initiative, 20 Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs (health camps) were conducted across the zone, benefiting 813 contractual staff.
The camps offered general health check-ups, blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, anaemia screening and sugar tests. Cancer screening was also conducted at Central Hospital, Lallaguda.
The campaign focused on transforming cleanliness target units and public spaces, promoting cleanliness in schools, ensuring the safety and welfare of sanitation workers, encouraging public participation and improving cleanliness at railway stations, trains, tourist destinations and heritage sites.
SCR is currently observing the Swachhata Pakhwada from October 1 to 15, with a focus on improving cleanliness across railway premises and strengthening solid waste management.
Various activities are being organised under the campaign, including ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’, tree plantation under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, awareness programmes against plastic use, flash mobs, street plays and cleanliness drives at workshops, colonies, depots and sheds.
Waste is also being removed from railway tracks.
SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava appreciated the railway staff and other participants for successfully conducting the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and exceeding the Railway Board's targets.
He urged officials, supervisors and staff to maintain the momentum during the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada and the upcoming Special Campaign 6.0.
