Farmers' interests priority; no politics over Jurala water: Minister Srihari

Hyderabad, Sep 22 (UNI) Telangana Animal Husbandry and Youth Services Minister Vakiti Srihari on Tuesday said there was no political controversy over the release of water from the Jurala project and asserted that the government's priority was to protect farmers' interests while safeguarding drinking water requirements.
Speaking to the media at the Congress Legislative Party office in the Assembly, Srihari urged political leaders not to mislead farmers without understanding the facts and said water release decisions were being taken scientifically, considering current storage, rainfall patterns, El Niño impact, inflows from Karnataka and future requirements.
He said the government was in continuous consultation with Karnataka to increase inflows into Jurala and assured farmers that the required irrigation water would be supplied in a phased manner as soon as inflows improved.
