BJP MLC issues apology over Pakistan remark

Bengaluru, May 27 (UNI) Karnataka BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar on Tuesday issued an apology following a political storm triggered by his controversial remarks about Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum, in which he questioned her nationality and insinuated that she may be from Pakistan.
Ravikumar made the comment during a BJP protest rally in Kalaburagi on May 24, prompting sharp backlash from across the political spectrum and strong condemnation from the Karnataka IAS Officers’ Association. An FIR was registered against him under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those pertaining to promoting enmity and disturbing national integration.
In his statement, Ravikumar described his remarks as an "emotional outburst" and said they were not reflective of the BJP’s values. "It was an emotional remark. I should not have said it. The BJP is a responsible central ruling party. It was not right on my part to make such a remark. I want to apologise," he said.
