Centre launches 4 AI initiatives to empower PwDs

Bengaluru, 30 May (UNI) In a significant stride towards digital inclusion, the Government of India today launched four major Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives aimed at empowering persons with disabilities at a high-profile National Conference held in Bengaluru, Karnataka. These transformative missions are expected to revolutionise accessibility and assistive technology across the country, setting the stage for a more inclusive India.
Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, unveiled the following flagship programmes: Mission AI Accessibility; Mission AI for Implementation of AI in Assistive Technologies and Tools; the National Disability Support AI Chatbot; and the United Benefits Interface (UBI).
Addressing the conference, Aggarwal termed the launch "a new era of inclusion ushered in by Artificial Intelligence," highlighting how AI-powered solutions like Deep Learning, Robotics, and Computer Vision hold tremendous promise in improving the lives of millions of persons with disabilities.
