Legal opinion received on ED probe against Pinarayi, Riyas: Kerala Home Minister

Kochi, Sep 19 (UNI) The Kerala Government has received legal advice that an investigation can be conducted based on the Enforcement Directorate's recommendation to register a case against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his son-in-law and former Minister Mohammed Riyas, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said on Saturday.
Chennithala said the government would take a decision on the matter after consulting Chief Minister V D Satheesan. The Advocate General gave the legal opinion after considering the views of the Director General of Police and taking into account relevant Supreme Court judgments, he said.
The Home Minister said the government could decide what kind of investigation should be conducted based on the legal advice received on the ED's recommendation to register a case and investigate Pinarayi Vijayan and Mohammed Riyas.
There was no need for the ED issue to be discussed during the meeting between Chief Minister Satheesan and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Chennithala told reporters.
He said he did not know whether Satheesan and Rahul Gandhi had discussed the matter during their meeting, adding that the issue could be decided within the state itself.
On the complaint that a Dalit youth from Adoor was allegedly assaulted by police, Chennithala said strict action would be taken. An SIT had been constituted to investigate the complaint against the Sasthamkotta police, he said.
Regarding the case against the owner of Reporter TV, the Home Minister said the SIT would conduct the investigation independently. To a question, Chennithala said he had good relations with all media organisations in Kerala.
