TPCC challenges KTR, Harish Rao to furnish survey details on 22-A land claims

Hyderabad, Sept 19 (UNI) TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin on Saturday challenged BRS working president K T Rama Rao and senior leader T Harish Rao to provide survey-wise details of private properties allegedly included wrongly in the Section 22-A prohibited properties list, saying genuine cases would be verified and corrected.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan along with Hyderabad DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah, TPCC spokesperson Ram Shetty Narender and Bahadurpura Assembly in-charge Rajesh Kumar Pulipati, Nizamuddin accused the BRS of portraying the entire extent of land under the prohibited list as private property.
"Do not bring hashtags. Bring survey numbers," he said, asking the BRS leaders to furnish the district, village, survey number, extent and ownership details of properties they claimed had been wrongly included.
Nizamuddin said Section 22-A was in force since 2007 and questioned why the previous BRS government had not corrected the alleged discrepancies during its decade in power.
He claimed that when the Congress government assumed office in December 2023, around 1.02 crore acres were covered under prohibited-property records, comprising government, forest, assigned or Lavani, shikam, Waqf and endowment lands, besides private properties.
The TPCC spokesperson said around four lakh acres constituted private land and alleged that several parcels were under court cases, government claims or private disputes.
He said presenting the entire prohibited extent as farmers' or private land was misleading.
At the same time, Nizamuddin acknowledged that errors had occurred in the records, including cases where entire survey numbers were placed under the prohibited category although restrictions applied only to a portion of the land.
The government had initiated a correction mechanism and constituted a high-level committee to examine such complaints, he said.
The issue has also drawn criticism from the BRS, with Harish Rao demanding a judicial probe and a white paper on the 22-A prohibited lands list.
Nizamuddin said 47,440 acres identified as wrongly entered had been removed from the prohibited category by August 2026, and argued that the figure reflected the government's efforts to correct erroneous entries.
The state government has publicly assured landowners that genuine properties wrongly included under Section 22-A would be reviewed and that ownership rights would be protected.
He further alleged that irregularities had occurred during the implementation of the Dharani land-record system and said disputed properties should remain protected from transactions until ownership or court disputes were resolved.
Defending restrictions on assigned and Lavani lands, Nizamuddin said such properties were allotted to landless poor families and should not be treated as real-estate assets.
Any illegal sale or occupation of such land should be investigated irrespective of the persons involved, he said.
He appealed to affected property owners not to resort to distress sales or pay intermediaries promising to secure removal from the prohibited list, but instead submit applications along with supporting documents to the authorities.
"If an applicant is found to be the genuine owner and the property has been wrongly included, it will be removed from Section 22-A after verification," he said.
Nizamuddin asked KTR and Harish Rao to submit specific survey numbers of properties they alleged had been wrongly listed and said the government would examine each case on the basis of official records.
"Let records decide, not rumours," Nizamuddin added.
