Temple tusker Brahmadathan’s ashes immersed in Bharathapuzha at Thirunavaya

Malappuram, Oct 8 (UNI) The ashes of popular temple tusker Pallatt Brahmadathan were immersed in the Bharathapuzha river at Thirunavaya here on Thursday, following his cremation at Melampara near Pala in Kottayam district of Kerala.
The final rites were performed at Thirunavaya, a renowned centre for rituals on the banks of the Bharathapuzha, in the presence of family members and close associates.
Brahmadathan, aged 54, died after being struck by lightning at Melampara near Pala on Sunday evening. The tusker was undergoing a period of rest at the time.
The death of the elephant triggered widespread grief among elephant lovers and festival enthusiasts across Kerala. Large numbers of people had gathered at the Pallatt family premises to pay their last respects before the tusker was cremated.
Fondly known as ‘Pallattukutti’, Brahmadathan had been a prominent participant in temple festivals in Kerala for nearly three decades. He was associated with several major festivals, including the Thrissur Pooram, and had earned a large following among festival-goers for his calm temperament.
The tusker was brought to Kerala from Arunachal Pradesh around 28 years ago and was initially known as Puthuppally Brahmadathan. He later came under the ownership of the Pallatt family and was renamed Pallatt Brahmadathan.
His death marked the end of the life of one of Kerala’s familiar and much-loved festival elephants, whose presence at temple celebrations had attracted thousands of devotees and elephant enthusiasts over the years.
