Popular Telugu anchor Swetcha Votarkar commits suicide

Hyderabad, June 28 (UNI) Popular Telugu news anchor Swetcha Votarkar (40) allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Chikkadapalli on Friday night.

According to Chikkadapalli police, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan around 1030 hours.

Swetcha, who had been living with her daughter following a divorce five years ago, is suspected to have taken the extreme step due to personal reasons.

Police have registered a case and are investigating based on a complaint filed by her mother, Sridevi.

Her body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem.

Journalists across the state mourned her sudden demise. Special Commissioner of I&PR, C.H. Priyanka, and several political leaders, including former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and Harish Rao, expressed their deep condolences.
