After Nilambur victory, UDF claims it will comeback in 2026; LDF to examine reasons for loss

Malappuram, June 23 (UNI) Following the Nilambur by-election victory, opposition leader VD Satheeshan said the United Democratic Front (UDF) would make a strong comeback in the 2026 Kerala assembly elections by winning over 100 seats out of 140.
Talking to news persons, Satheeshan said "the victory of Aryadan Shoukath in the Nilambur by-election is the result of a unified and tireless effort by team UDF."
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has claimed that Aryadan Shoukath's victory is considered as an anti-incumbency vote against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government and added that the Nilambur result is the semifinal for the 2026 assembly elections.
Ramesh Chennithala said, the lead of the UDF in the Nilambur byelection would have gone up to 25,000 votes, if former Nilambur MLA, PV Anvar had been brought into the UDF alliance. Many UDF leaders including IUML General Secretary P Kunhalikutty and himself tried to induct PV Anvar as part of the UDF stance of those people who have taken a stand against the CPI(M), but things didn't work out.

KPCC President Sunny Joseph said "the UDF has not closed the doors to PV Anvar", and added that it will be opened if needed, in response to a question from media persons at Kannur.
He also said "UDF has a strong team and we will continue to work together in future days also to topple the LDF government".
Commenting on the by-election loss, CPI(M) State secretary MV Govindan said "UDF won in Nilambur byelection with the support of Communal powers. LDF will examine the results and take necessary steps. If corrections are needed they will be made and then move forward."
Former MLA, PV Anvar, who contested as an independent candidate in this election, secured 19,760 votes, which is considered to have come from both the UDF and LDF strongholds in all the panchayat segments and Nilambur Municipality. Anvar told media persons after the election result that the people voted against the LDF government's misrule and he was ready to contest from Beypore assembly constituency in the 2026 election "to end Pinarayism in the LDF".
Final votes table;- Total votes 232,381, polled votes 175,359; Mohan George (BJP- 8,648), Aryadan Shoukath (INC- 77,737), M Swaraj (CPI-M- 66,660), Sadik Naduthodi (SDPI- 2,075), PV Anvar (Independent- 19,760), N Jayarajan (Ind- 52), P Radhakrishnan(Ind-43), Vijayan- (Ind- 85), Sadeesh Kumar (Ind- 114), Harinarayanan (Ind- 185), NOTA- 630, rejected votes- 88.
