Hyderabad, June 28 (UNI) Telangana Employment and Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkata Swamy on Saturday hailed former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient PV Narasimha Rao as a visionary leader who guided India through challenging times and laid the groundwork for the nation’s economic transformation.
The birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister was commemorated at PV Ghat on Necklace Road, where PVNR’s family members, Minister Vivek, Forest and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha, and others paid floral tributes.
Speaking at the event, Minister Vivek lauded Rao for initiating historic economic reforms that positioned India as a rising global economy. He recalled how PVNR allocated Rs 400 crore to rescue Singareni Collieries and sanctioned Rs 5,000 crore for poverty alleviation, reflecting his commitment to the welfare of the poor.
Minister Konda Surekha praised PVNR’s role in bringing global recognition to India and commended his administrative acumen and focus on rural development, both as Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh and as Prime Minister. She noted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is now leading the state in line with PVNR’s inclusive governance ideals.
Meanwhile, in separate messages, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and TPCC president & MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud also paid rich tributes to PVNR.
Revanth Reddy remembered him as a multilingual scholar, visionary statesman, and the architect of India’s liberalisation. He credited PV’s reforms as the foundation of India’s journey towards becoming a USD 5 trillion economy. The CM also highlighted his contributions to education, including the establishment of Navodaya Vidyalayas and the Sarvel Residential School, laying the path for the Gurukul system.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to quality education, the CM said Telangana is establishing Young India Integrated Residential Schools in every constituency and upgrading existing Gurukul institutions.
TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud described PVNR as a true scholar, polyglot, and statesman, whose legacy remains a guiding light for future generations.
