After Metro train ride with Vijay, PM Modi launches Rs 13,000 cr development projects in TN across various sectors

Chennai, Oct 11 (UNI) Driving Tamil Nadu's growth through modern infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated/dedicated to the nation and laid foundation stone for various development projects worth Rs 13,000 crore, spread across various sectors including Railways, Ports, Highways, petroleum and scientific research.
Mr Modi, who arrived from Delhi, was received at the airport by Governor R.V.Arlekar, Chief Minister Vijay, Ministers, leaders of BJP and AIADMK, which is heading the NDA in the state, including BJP State President Nainar Nagendran and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K.Palaniswami.
Mr Modi began his visit by taking a Chennai Metro train ride with Vijay -- who shared dais with the Prime Minister in a public event for the first time after becoming Chief Minister in May -- from Porur bypass station to Poonamallee bypass station and back, forming part of the first 14.64 km first stretch of the Phase-II Chennai Metro Rail Project.
He later inaugurated the Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch of Phase II of the Metro Project, built at a cost of around Rs.4,900 crore. The corridor features a unique 3.7-km double-decker structure. It also features advanced signalling systems designed to support driverless operations. It is expected to reduce daily travel time for commuters and improve connectivity between Chennai’s rapidly growing western suburbs and the city centre.
After the Metro ride, he drove down to IIT-Madras campus where he offered darshan and performed special pooja at the Jalakandeswarar Temple. He then undertook a walkthrough of the Brain Centre at IIT Madras, interacted with Founder of top 10 Startups and BPL/Divyang children.
Later, at a public function, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and inaugurated and dedicated various development projects worth over Rs.13,000 crore, including the first stretch of the Phase-II of Chennai Metro Rail project, four-laned projects of NH-744
and NH-744A, major infra projects and Chennai, VOC and Kamarajar Ports, five Amrit Bharat renovated railway stations at Palani, Namakkal, Paramakudi, Ambasamudram and Vellore Cantonment.
He also laid foundation stones for the construction of 4-lane Thiruvarur bypass on NH-83, 250 MW/500 MW Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at Ottapidaram, Anuppankulam and Kayatharu in southern Tirunelveli district, Group II/III Lube Oil Base Stocks (LOBS) project at the Manali refinery of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited.
He also dedicated to the nation the Karaikal-Peralam Rail line and three Railway Over Bridges at Coimbatore and announced Brain
Atlas and "100 Human Brains" mission, aimed at creating publicly accessible, cell-resolution of 3D brain atlases across the human lifespan and diseases, advancing neurosciences research and enabling new insights into brain disorders, including stroke.
The dedication of Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras marked the launch of a global scientific mission to map more than 100 human brains into three-dimensional atlases at cellular resolution, covering the human lifespan from the foetal stage to old age. The initiative is intended to deepen scientific understanding of the human brain and strengthen international research capabilities in neuroscience.
The Prime Minister also released C-STROKE, described as a pioneering human ischaemic stroke atlas containing more than 1,000 annotated microscopic sections from a stroke-affected brain.The resource is expected to assist researchers worldwide in investigating
the mechanisms of stroke and identifying potential new therapeutic targets. Together, the brain-mapping mission and the stroke atlas
are expected to expand access to advanced research resources and support studies into neurological disorders and possible treatments.
The Poonamallee-Porur Metro stretch would reduce the travel time to just 20 minutes, while the journey from Porur to Vadapalani
would take 18 minutes by metro, saving time. The project at Manali refinery would boost the country's world-class, high performance lubricant manufacturing capability.
The railway projects would enhance railway capacity and oeprational efficiency while boosting tourism and local economic growth, while the Nationaol Highway projects would strengthen connectivity in southern Tamil Nadu and the port infra projects were aimed
at boosting trade, improving cargo movement and public facilities while promoting cleaner, safer and more sustainable port operations.
After addressing the gathering, Mr Modi rounded off his visit by attending the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Jaigopal Garodia
Hindu Vidyalaya Matrictulation Higher Secondary school at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam, before leaving for New Delhi.
