ABVP sweeps Mangaluru college polls, setback for Cong amid election row

Mangaluru, Sept 11 (UNI) The first student union election held at Mangalore University College here after Karnataka's decision to revive campus polls turned into an early political test for the ruling Congress, with ABVP-backed candidates reportedly sweeping all six posts in an election conducted through the existing indirect system.
The result came a day after the Karnataka government decided to restore student union elections across degree and pre-university colleges after a 37-year gap, while stipulating that candidates would contest without using the banners of politically affiliated student organisations.
The Mangalore University College election at Hampankatta, however, acquired significance after the government issued fresh directions on the conduct of student polls on September 10, shortly before the scheduled election.

AP Govt approvers Rs 22,177 Cr worth 28 projects

Vijayawada, Sep 18 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Friday approved 28 industrial proposals with investment of Rs.22,177.84 crore creating employment opportunities for 19,739 youth.
The proposals covered various sectors including energy, IT and communications, food processing, manufacturing and tourism. The Chief Minister directed the officials to create a comprehensive port infrastructure ecosystem along the State’s coastline.

AP: 1,970 liquor shops opt for renewal, Rs 403 25 crore collected from 1,220 shops
