AP: BJP hits out at YSRCP over ‘diversion tactics’ in Kakinada local body polls, calls boycott claims sympathy drama

Kakinada, Oct 22 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today ridiculed the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leadership for resorting to alleged diversionary tactics, accusing the opposition of manufacturing claims of nomination obstruction to evoke public sympathy ahead of the local body polls.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP Kakinada district president Bikkina Visweswerarao and senior leader Duvvuri Subrahmanyam asserted that voters across the state are eager to hand the YSRCP a decisive electoral defeat.
"No one is prepared to give undue publicity or importance to the YSRCP. Claiming that their candidates are being prevented from filing nominations is nothing but a desperate bid to gain public sympathy," the BJP leaders remarked.
They recalled the 2021 local body elections held under the YSRCP regime, alleging that widespread administrative coercion had manipulated the process back then.
"The people have not forgotten the high-handedness during the 2021 polls. Using the official machinery, the then-ruling YSRCP engineered one-sided contests and declared seats unanimous. In truth, those were not unanimous, but anonymous," they charged.
The BJP leaders claimed that fearing a comprehensive rout, the YSRCP had moved the Supreme Court seeking to stall the civic elections, but failed to secure relief.
"Once elections became inevitable, they activated their diversion game to play the victim card," they charged.
They noted that while the electorate had handed the YSRCP a massive mandate in 2019, the governance and alleged corruption witnessed between 2019 and 2024 have alienated the public for years to come.
They predicted that the party would face sharp reverses not just in the current local body elections, but also in the 2029 Assembly polls.
Commenting on reports circulating in political circles suggesting that a frustrated YSRCP leadership might explore an understanding with the Congress, the leaders said that while alliances remain an internal party prerogative, any such move would prove "suicidal and amount to adding another stone to its political grave."
