AP: Congress gives call for 'Chalo Raj Bhavan' on Oct’ 10 to protect voting rights

Vijayawada, Oct 7 (UNI) The Congress party in Andhra Pradesh has given a call for ‘Chalo Raj Bhavan’ on October 10 to protect voting rights and democracy.
Addressing a press conference, along with the Left party leaders here on Wednesday, APCC Vice President Kolanukonda Shivaji appealed to people to participate in large numbers in the “Chalo Raj Bhavan” programme as part of the united democratic movement to protect voting rights and safeguard the system.
The APCC Vice-president said the party was continuing its fight against the voter-list revision exercise being undertaken in Andhra Pradesh in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), as well as allegations of vote theft across the country.
The Chalo Raj Bhavan programme was part of the joint action planned by democratic forces to raise these concerns before the authorities and the people, he added.
He said that despite large-scale protests led by INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the Central government had failed to invite the Opposition for a discussion or provide satisfactory explanations regarding the allegations.
The Congress leader demanded that the Election Commission must provide clear answers to the allegations and doubts surrounding the electoral process and voter lists. “The electoral process should be transparent and conducted in accordance with voters’ rights and the spirit of Articles 14 and 326 of the Constitution,” he observed.
“Transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining the people’s confidence in the electoral system,” Shivaji said, demanding a comprehensive inquiry into allegations of irregularities in the electoral process and resignation of the CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
