28,000 Visakhapatnam families to get house site pattas, conveyance deeds on Sept 19 : MP Sribharat

Visakhapatnam, Sept 17 (UNI) Around 28,000 families in the Visakhapatnam urban region are set to receive house site pattas and Conveyance Deeds at a special programme to be attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu here on September 19, Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Visakhapatnam TDP office, Sribharat said the initiative was aimed at providing economically weaker families with legally valid ownership rights and greater security over properties where they had been residing for several decades.
He said nearly 60,000 house site pattas had been distributed earlier, but some beneficiaries continued to face difficulties due to technical issues and properties figuring in the 22-A prohibited list. These issues had affected their ability to sell properties or secure bank loans for education, medical treatment and marriages, he said.
The issuance of Conveyance Deeds would provide eligible beneficiaries with clearer and legally enforceable ownership rights, ensuring that house site pattas translated into actual legal security and clarity of title, Sribharat said.
Five major infrastructure projects, with an estimated value of around ₹1,838 crore, supported through the Urban Challenge Fund and World Bank financing, would also be inaugurated or launched during the programme, he said.
The projects are aimed at strengthening Visakhapatnam's drinking water infrastructure and modernising the underground drainage system, while addressing the city's future urban infrastructure requirements, he added.
Sribharat said the Velampeta Slum Redevelopment Project was being developed as a model initiative to improve living conditions of economically weaker families. Each eligible family would be provided a 410-square-foot flat free of cost, while the developer would receive Transferable Development Rights (TDR) benefits.
The project seeks to provide poor families with a clean and dignified living environment, broadly inspired by the principles followed by Singapore's Housing Development Board, he said.
The MP also said illegal encroachments on government land and unauthorised trading in government properties would not be encouraged.
Providing property rights to economically weaker families, strengthening their economic security and improving Visakhapatnam's urban infrastructure were important priorities, Sribharat added.
