Hariprasad's remarks carry no weight, says Chalavadi Narayanaswamy

Bengaluru, Sept 28 (UNI) Karnataka Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Monday hit back at KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad over his remarks against the RSS and BJP, saying there was no question of driving anyone out of Bengaluru and questioning the Congress leader's credibility.
Responding to reporters here, Narayanaswamy said the RSS volunteers carry sticks as part of their uniform during route marches and alleged that the organisation had neither deceived nor wronged anyone with them in its 100-year history.
"There was a time when people used to roam around carrying swords. Can anyone drive anybody out of Bengaluru now?" he asked in a sarcastic reference to Hariprasad's remarks.
Narayanaswamy claimed that there were no pending cases against the RSS in Karnataka and said even Home Minister G. Parameshwara had stated this in the Assembly. "Then, does Hariprasad's statement have even the value of a cowrie?" he asked.
"This is not the era of swords. This is the era of Vande Mataram," he said, questioning the government's decision to restrict the rendition of the national song and alleging that the Congress had displayed its "arrogance" by stopping the full song from being sung in the legislature.
Narayanaswamy accused Hariprasad of following a "hit, beat and cut" political culture and alleged that Congress workers had been sent to his residence to throw stones following his recent remarks on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
On illegal immigrants, he alleged that a large number of Bangladeshis were living in Karnataka and claimed that some were employed in coffee estates and hotels in Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Dharwad and Kalaburagi.
On the Congress's opposition to SIR, Narayanaswamy cited remarks attributed to Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala that the exercise had made the electoral process easier in Kerala by preventing bogus voting, and questioned why the Congress did not describe it as "vote theft" there.
He said the Congress had won 136 seats in Karnataka without alleging vote theft and had similarly not raised the issue after winning in Telangana.
"There has been no vote theft in the country. The voters simply did not vote for the Congress," he said.
