BJP slams Cong protest without permission

Bengaluru, June 30 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, today accused Congress workers of engaging in “hooliganism” by protesting in front of the BJP office without police permission, and demanded strict action against them.
Addressing the media after submitting a formal complaint to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner at his Vasanth Nagar office, Narayanaswamy said, “We respect their democratic right. But protesting without permission or without informing the police amounts to hooliganism. The Commissioner has been apprised and we have urged him to take necessary action.”
Narayanaswamy alleged that on June 28, as BJP leaders were exiting the party office after a meeting, about 13 Congress workers arrived and staged a protest without prior intimation to the police. “We had 200–300 BJP workers present. If we had wished, we could have stopped them ourselves,” he said.
He further alleged that even after the police detained the protestors, another group of 7–8 Congress workers resumed the protest within 15 minutes. “This has happened three to four times in a month, including on the 13th and 26th. Yet, no FIR or case has been registered against them,” he claimed.
“In contrast, a case was filed against us just for pasting posters. We are now running around court. Justice should be the same for everyone,” he remarked.
“Just because the Congress is in power, they can’t be spared, and just because we are not, we can’t be harassed. We have brought this to the notice of the Commissioner, who has assured that the matter will be taken seriously. If this continues, we too will be forced to take the next step,” Narayanaswamy warned.
Supporting this position, BJP Legislative Council Chief Whip N Ravi Kumar said Congress workers had staged two protests within 20 minutes outside the BJP office on June 28, with 10–12 people participating each time. He said one protest coincided with Union Minister Bhupender Yadav’s visit to the city, where protestors raised slogans against the Emergency-era policies of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Ravi Kumar accused the Congress of using the police for political protection. “When Congress workers protest at our office, police provide them security. We have raised this concern officially. Congress is in power in just three states, whereas BJP governs in 20 states across India. If they believe Siddaramaiah’s government is permanent, they are mistaken,” he said. “No matter how many cases are filed against us, we have faced and will continue to face them.”
