Kharge backs Rahul Gandhi over voter spike

Bengaluru, June 24 (UNI) Karnataka Minister and Congress leader Priyank Kharge on Tuesday questioned the credibility and transparency of the Election Commission of India (ECI), following its response to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s concerns over voter data discrepancies.
Reacting sharply to the ECI’s statement, Kharge said, “Yeah, so that’s a good thing. But why are they waking up so late?”
He cited data from Maharashtra CM Fadnavis' constituency, where the voter population had reportedly increased by over 8.26 percent — more than double the 4 percent threshold that legally mandates a review of the electoral roll. “What does the law say? If it is more than 4 percent, you need to re-examine everything. Did they do that? No.”
