Bengaluru, Sep 25 (UNI) Karnataka Leader of Opposition R Ashoka on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government over its Rs 2,500 drought relief package for farmers, calling the assistance an “insult” to the farming community and demanding compensation linked to the extent of crop loss.
Ashoka said the government had convened a special legislative session to address the drought situation but ended it by offering farmers only Rs 2,500, which he described as grossly inadequate in the face of mounting cultivation costs, crop losses and rural distress.
He said the BJP had demanded Rs 50,000 per acre for drought-affected farmers and argued that the government should provide at least Rs 25,000 per acre if it was unable to meet the higher demand.
