Kumaraswamy accuses Priyank Kharge of protecting sting operators

Bengaluru, Oct 29 (UNI) Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge over the controversial sting operation, accusing him of defending those involved and alleging a conspiracy involving the Congress leadership against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
In a strongly worded social media post addressed to Kharge, Kumaraswamy questioned the minister's statements on the sting operation and alleged that he was attempting to divert attention from the controversy.
Accusing Kharge of making statements based on incomplete information, Kumaraswamy asked whether the minister had any connection with the sting operation and why he was allegedly defending those involved in it.
He also questioned Kharge about his recent meeting with Siddaramaiah, asking whether the Chief Minister had spoken to him or brushed aside his concerns. Kumaraswamy challenged the minister to publicly clarify what transpired during the meeting.
In a political allegation, Kumaraswamy claimed that Kharge, his father and Congress leaders had conspired to undermine Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah amid differences between the party's central and state leadership. He did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegation in the post.
Kumaraswamy also accused Kharge of using issues involving the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and other political figures to divert attention from the controversy.
Referring to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) controversy, Kumaraswamy said he would continue to raise the issue and accused the minister of failing to take appropriate action.
He further criticised Kharge over his remarks concerning his visit to the United States to attend an Akka conference, rejecting suggestions that it was a leisure trip and accusing the minister of displaying disrespect towards Kannada.
Kumaraswamy, who used the hashtags #StingSamrat and #Stingpin in his post, alleged that Kharge had become entangled in the sting operation controversy and said the minister's conduct had exposed him in his capacity as Home Minister.
The allegations could not be independently verified. Kharge's response to the charges was not available immediately.
