AP: EX-CM Jagan Reddy seeks impartial monitoring of local body polls, central forces deployment

Vijayawada, Oct 23 (UNI) YSRCP President and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday demanded a court appointed ‘amicus curiae’ type of impartial observer to supervise the urban local body elections in Andhra Pradesh besides deployment of central forces, video recording of the election process and protection to all contesting candidates.
Speaking to media here, Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that Chandrababu Naidu led government is not honouring the Supreme Court directives in the context of his party's complaints over its candidates being obstructed from filing nomination papers and intimidatory tactics using police machinery. He further alleged that the ruling TDP was continuing its attacks on YSRCP candidates and indulging in snatching of ballot papers even as police were taking sides.
"The script in the ZPTC and MPTC nominations is no different and YSRCP candidates including women were attacked, threatened and nomination papers snatched and torn," he said releasing a book titled ‘Pachamookala Dadulu’ (attacks by yellow mobs) which is apparently a compilation of pictorial evidence of the attacks. The QR code of the book would be made available to all those who want to safeguard democracy and also submitted to the courts.
“We have been reporting all incidents to the officials concerned and will also move courts as democracy is at stake with the prevailing anarchy and TDP is rigging the nominations even by filing papers on behalf of YSRCP. They have also forged the signatures of our candidates and announced the withdrawal of nomination,” he alleged.
“When the elections are being held on party basis, and when we released the list of our party candidates, where is the necessity for not allowing anyone to file nomination papers,” he asked charging that the SEC has been undermining the SC directives and picked a few centres to allow re-nominations.
He claimed that nominations were obstructed in 19 municipalities while the SEC has considered the cases of only a handful of wards in Tirupati, Kadapa, Rajampet and Mydukur.
Listing out the attacks on party candidates and leaders, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that MP Y S Avinash Reddy was arrested from the YSRCP Office in Kadapa, while former Deputy Chief Minister Narayana Swamy was attacked in Chittoor.
The Ex-Chief Minister claimed that attacks on ZPTC and MPTC candidates were reported from Gorantla, Dharmavaram, V Kota, Chittoor, GD Nellore, Tadimarri, Kanigiri, Dachepalli, Punganur, Jammalamadugu among other places.
