Siddaramaiah sting video: CCB probes origins, awaits forensic report

Bengaluru, Oct 29 (UNI) The Central Crime Branch (CCB) is investigating the authenticity and circulation of a controversial sting video involving former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, with the probe focusing on the circumstances of its recording, the digital trail and the people allegedly involved in disseminating it.
According to the police, the evidence collected and statements recorded so far have not substantiated the allegations depicted in the video. The investigation is continuing to establish how the footage was created and circulated.
A key aspect of the probe is the nearly 12-year gap between the alleged incident in 2011 and the recording of the video in 2023. Investigators are examining the circumstances in which it was recorded and whether the footage was altered or manipulated.
The CCB has seized the original mobile phone allegedly used to record the video and sent it for forensic examination. The report is awaited.
Investigators are also tracing the video's circulation on social media platforms, including YouTube and X. Preliminary findings indicate that anonymous accounts and technology used to mask digital identities may have been employed to circulate the footage. The police are examining digital records to establish the sequence of uploads and identify those involved.
In a related development, a man was detained and questioned on October 24 in connection with the case. Preliminary investigation indicated that he worked as a freelance social media content creator. The police are examining his contacts in Delhi and their possible links to the recording and circulation of the video.
The case follows a complaint by Siddaramaiah on October 6 over the video's circulation. He had alleged that the content was fabricated and intended to damage his reputation. A civil court subsequently issued an interim injunction restraining the publication and circulation of the video.
The CCB is continuing to examine the forensic and digital evidence to establish the video's authenticity and determine the circumstances surrounding its creation and dissemination.
