No alliance with BJP ahead of 2028 Telangana polls: BRS working Prez KTR

Sonipat/ Hyderabad, Sept 16 (UNI) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President and former Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday ruled out any alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2028 Telangana Assembly elections.
KTR made the remarks while delivering a Distinguished Public Lecture on “Innovation in Governance: The Story of a Startup State” at O P Jindal Global University here.
Responding to a question on a possible alliance with the BJP, KTR said, “There will be no alliance with the BJP.”
On delimitation, he said the BRS would have no objection to supporting a delimitation bill if the increase in Lok Sabha seats was carried out proportionately.
“Southern states account for 24 per cent of the representation in Lok Sabha. If there is an overall increase in the number of seats proportionately, then we will have no problem supporting the delimitation bill,” he said.
Speaking on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technological changes, KTR said apprehensions had accompanied every major technological transition and called for adoption of emerging technologies.
In his lecture, KTR outlined Telangana’s development journey through the concepts of “certainty and possibility”.
He said governance should provide certainty through basic infrastructure and reliable public services while creating ecosystems that promote innovation, entrepreneurship and new opportunities.
He highlighted initiatives in irrigation, agriculture, drinking water and power, and referred to the Kaleshwaram Project as an engineering response to the challenge of taking Godavari water to drought-prone regions of Telangana.
KTR also cited an increase in rice production from about 44.4 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 to 168.8 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.
He outlined Telangana’s innovation ecosystem, referring to T-Hub, WE-Hub, T-Works and TASK and their roles in entrepreneurship, women-led enterprises, prototyping, hardware innovation and connecting young talent with industry.
Citing Skyroot as an example, he said the ecosystem had supported the journey from incubation and prototyping to a market-ready company.
He urged students to approach constraints as design problems and focus on learning, iteration and execution.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session during which students raised questions on politics, public policy, delimitation and emerging technologies.
O P Jindal Global University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr C Raj Kumar also present.
