Telangana Tribal Federation welcomes separate SC, ST Commissions

Hyderabad, Nov 6 (UNI) The Telangana Tribal Federation (Telangana Girijana Samakhya) has welcomed the State government's decision to repeal the 2003 Telangana SC/ST Commission Act and introduce a new 2026 Act providing for separate commissions for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, describing it as a historic step towards protecting the rights of tribal communities.
In a statement, Federation State General Secretary Ramavath Anjaiah Naik congratulated Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the State government for accepting the long-pending demand of tribal organisations.
He said that despite separate national-level commissions for SCs and STs under Articles 338 and 338A of the Constitution, the absence of an independent ST Commission in the State had resulted in delays in addressing tribal grievances. The establishment of a dedicated commission would strengthen the protection of tribal rights and help resolve their problems more effectively, he added.
He expressed hope that the new commission would play a key role in improving the welfare, education, healthcare and employment opportunities of tribal communities.
Anjaiah Naik also thanked CPI State Secretary and Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao for taking the initiative and facilitating the submission of a representation to the Chief Minister seeking separate commissions for SCs and STs. He said the tribal community would remain grateful to the government for fulfilling a demand raised by tribal organisations for several decades.
