TVK formally joins India Bloc, attends meeting for the first time, leaders resolve to stage protest demo against CEC on Oct 15

Chennai, Oct 3 (UNI) Shedding its ambuigity, the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of Chief Minister Vijay formally joined
the Congress-led INDIA Bloc on Saturday and attended its meeting which resolved to hold a massive demonstration in Chennai on October 15 to condemn the BJP-led government and demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over the Vote Chori row.
In the meeting of the INDIA Bloc in Tamil Nadu, the TVK was in attendance for the first time signalling its formal entry into it and the leaders adopted a resolution slamming the union Government for using the ECI as a tool to snatch the voting rights of 13 crore people besides the sacking of the CEC.
A total of five resolutions were adopted at the meeting, including to stage "Save Democracy" protests (as a prelude to the main agitation on October 15) in all the district headquarters of the state on October 13 and 14. All the alliance parties of the INDI alliance will take part in the agitation, to take to the people the SIR row, which it termed was a murder of democracy.
Top leaders of all parties which attended the meeting--held in the backdrop of widespread demand for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar on SIR row--held at TNCC headquarters Sathyamoorthy Bhavan here, will take part in the Octobr 15 protest demonstration in Chennai, TNCC President and Lok Sabha MP B.Manickam Tagore told reporters.
"Leaders of all the parties in the INDIA Bloc in Tamil Nadu will participate in the agitation", he added.
Apart from Congress and TVK, which was represented by Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and Marie Wilson, leaders and representatives of INDIA Bloc allies including MDMK, VCK, IUML--who were constituents of the newly formed TVK-led Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance (SSJVA), and CPI and CPI-M, who are not part of the Front despite extending outside support to the Vijay government, besides Congress MPs, MLAs, CLP Leader Tharahai Cuthbert, former TNCC Presidents and senior leaders, attended the meeting.
Tagore, who chaired the meeting, thanked theTVK for taking part in the meeting for the first time, marking its entry into the INDIA Bloc.
A resolution welcoming the TVK into the INDI Alliance was adopted at the meeting, which also whole-heartedly lauded TVK Founder and Chief Minister Vijay for taking this good political decision to work in close coordinationwith the INDI alliance.
The consultative meeting focused on finalizing action plans to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls
and demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar and one of the resolutions adopted the meeting decided to stage a massive protest demonstration on October 15 as part of their nationwide 'Save Democracy' agitation against the Election Commission of India.
