AIADMK functionary arrested for attempts to lure TVK MLA with Rs 15 cr bribe offer

Chennai, Nov 6 (UNI) A functionary of the Opposition AIADMK P.M.Mannan was arrested on Friday by the police for alleged trying to lure a ruling TVK MLA with a Rs 15 crore bribe to vote against the Vijay government in the no trust vote.
Mannan, who is also the propoganda secretary of the AIADMK, was summoned for questioning after TVK Madurai Central Legislator Madhar Badhurudeen, popularly called as Mustafa, alleged that he was offered Rs 15 crore bribe. After questioning, the Madurai Central Crime Branch police arrested him based on a complaint lodged by the legislator.
Mustafa told reporters on Wednesday that he had received phone calls from AIADMK functionaries offering him Rs 15 crore to back a no-confidence motion whenever it was moved and that he had informed the TVK leadership about this. The caller said "Take Rs 15 crore now. Will give Rs 15 crore during the no confidence vote", he added.
He also said none of the TVK legislators would shift their loyalty even if they offered Rs 100 crore. He said he had recorded the telephonic conversation.
Joining Mustafa, senior TVK leader and Tamil Nadu Elecricity and Law Minister CTR.Nirmalkumar also joined him accusing the opposition DMK and the AIADMK of attempting to poach the ruling party legislators ahead of the upcoming bypolls.
The Minister also said the two Dravidian parties had thousands of crores to spend, and alleged that offers ranging from Rs 60 crore to
Rs.70 crore were being made to MLAs. Hawala money trails linked to these operations were already surfacing in Bengaluru, he alleged.
A staunch loyalist of former DMK leader and union Minister M.K.Alagiri, Mannan, also a former Madurai Deputy Mayor, had quit the DMK and joined the AIADMK in February this year.
Meanwhile, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K.Palaniswami condemned the arrest of Mannan and had a dig at the ruling TVK for foisting cases against the Opposition leaders.
Accusing it of indulging in horse trading by poaching the lone MLA of the AMMK, an ally of the AIADMK-led NDA, even before assuming power, he said it was shameful that the TVK had stitched a false story through its Madurai Central MLA Mustafa and has arrested Mannan.
While demanding the immediate release of Mannan, EPS also urged the TVK to stop resorting to such cheap political tactics.
