Vijayendra moves to mend ties with Eshwarappa ahead of 2028 polls

Bengaluru, Oct 10 (UNI) BJP Karnataka president B Y Vijayendra is reportedly reaching out to suspended party leader K S Eshwarappa to resolve differences and explore his return to the party fold, as the state unit looks to address internal dissent ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
According to political circles, Vijayendra recently met Eshwarappa’s son, K E Kantesh, in Bengaluru and is said to have urged him to persuade his father to reconcile with the party leadership. The reported outreach has fuelled speculation about possible efforts to revoke Eshwarappa’s suspension, though neither the meeting nor any move to reinstate him has been officially confirmed.
Eshwarappa was suspended from the BJP after he rebelled against the party leadership and contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from Shivamogga against BJP nominee B Y Raghavendra, son of veteran BJP leader B S Yediyurappa. His rebellion followed differences with the state leadership over the denial of a ticket to Kantesh from Haveri for the Lok Sabha election.
A former minister and a prominent BJP figure in Karnataka, Eshwarappa has maintained an independent political profile and has been associated with the party’s Hindutva platform. Any reconciliation would involve addressing the differences that led to his suspension and determining his future role in the party.
The reported initiative also comes amid wider efforts within the BJP to consolidate its organisation and manage dissent in the run-up to the next Assembly elections. Eshwarappa’s return, if pursued, could require a political settlement involving both him and his son, although no formal assurance regarding Kantesh’s political future has been confirmed.
Separately, political circles have also been abuzz with claims that JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy is exploring the possibility of bringing back some former party leaders who joined the Congress, as regional parties begin positioning themselves for the 2028 elections. The identities of the leaders and the nature of any such discussions remain unclear.
There has been no official confirmation from the BJP or Eshwarappa on the reported reconciliation efforts.
