BJP turns price rise into 2028 poll plank, announces statewide protests

Chitradurga, Nov 4 (UNI) The BJP has begun positioning rising prices as a major political issue in its campaign against the Congress government in Karnataka, announcing statewide protests from Thursday in an attempt to turn public discontent over higher milk prices and bus fares into a broader mobilisation ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
The announcement by BJP state president Vijayendra Yediyurapa here on Wednesday marks an attempt by the opposition party to take the price-rise battle beyond political rhetoric and carry it to the districts, placing the economic burden on households and commuters at the centre of its campaign against the ruling dispensation.
Addressing a public awareness march titled 'Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy', Vijayendra accused the Congress government of being insensitive to the difficulties faced by ordinary people. He alleged that the government had increased milk prices and bus fares, adding to the financial burden on the public.
Announcing protests across districts from Thursday against rising prices of essential commodities, he called upon party workers to expose what he described as the government's anti-people policies.
The BJP's move also comes against the backdrop of its efforts to build a sustained campaign against the Congress government, with Vijayendra seeking to connect everyday economic concerns with the party's larger political challenge ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls.
Targeting Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, he alleged that the Congress government had failed farmers, the poor and disadvantaged sections. He asserted that a BJP-led NDA government would return to power in Karnataka in 2028 and follow the governance model of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
Vijayendra also accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of attempting to destabilise democratically elected governments because they could not accept Narendra Modi as Prime Minister.
Referring to the Emergency imposed in 1975, he accused the Congress of undermining democratic freedoms. He also criticised the party over its opposition to the abrogation of Article 370 and the Centre's action against terrorism and Naxalism.
BJP National General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Harish Dwivedi, MP Govind Karjol, Legislative Council Opposition Chief Whip N Ravikumar, MLAs M Chandrappa, S Suresh Gowda and GB Jyoti Ganesh, former minister MP Renukacharya and other party leaders and workers participated in the programme.
