PM inaugurates Amrit Railway Stations

Thiruvananthapuram, May 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chirayinkeezh and the Kulitturai Railway Stations via video conferencing on Thursday.

The two stations, among 103 Amrit Railway Stations across the nation, were inaugurated by the PM from Bikaner (Rajasthan), from where he unveiled various rail infrastructure, electrification, and Amrit Station projects worth Rs 26000 crores.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Law & Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, graced the event held in Rajasthan, among other dignitaries and eminent persons.

At Chirayinkeezh in Thiruvananthapuram, Suresh Gopi, Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Adoor Prakash, MP, V Sasi, MLA attended the inauguration function. Dr.Manish Thaplyal, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division, and other senior officials of Thiruvananthapuram Division participated.

At Kulitturai in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Tharahai Cuthbert, MLA, M.R. Gandhi, MLA, Pon Radhakrishnan, former Union Minister of State, and other State and Central Govt officials participated.

Strategically located near the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border, the redeveloped Kulitturai station (Rs.5.96 crore) now offers enhanced accessibility, cleaner platforms, and commuter-friendly upgrades.

Upgraded at a cost of Rs.7 crores, Chirayinkeezh station, station now features better lighting, smart signage, and improved facilities for both daily and tourist travelers.

Each of these Amrit stations has been redeveloped focusing on multi-modal integration, energy efficiency, user-friendly facilities, and regional cultural integration. The upgradation of stations with improved infra and facilities have not only enhanced passenger convenience but also added significant value to regional transit networks.
