ABVP seeks Centre's intervention in Umar Khalid documentary row

Bengaluru, Sept 14 (UNI) The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Bengaluru unit has escalated its opposition to the proposed screening of a documentary on Umar Khalid at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), seeking direct intervention from the Centre for its permanent cancellation and a high-level inquiry into the university administration.
In separate representations to union Home Minister Amit Shah, union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, the ABVP demanded that NLSIU be directed to withdraw all permissions for the screening of Lalit Vachani's 'Prisoner No. 626710 is Present' and ensure that the documentary is neither screened nor promoted on the campus.
The escalation follows the organisers' decision to postpone the screening, citing security and administrative reasons. The ABVP, however, rejected the postponement as inadequate, alleging that it could merely provide a window for the controversy to subside before the event is revived.
