India complete kabaddi double, retain men's gold with 40-34 win over Iran

Nagoya, Sep 26 (UNI) India produced a stirring second-half comeback to beat Iran 40-34 and retain the men's kabaddi gold at the Asian Games here on Saturday, completing a golden double after the women's team also defeated Iran in the final earlier in the day.
Trailing 17-18 at half-time, the defending champions faced a fiercely contested battle against an Iranian side determined to reclaim the title.
Iran stretched their advantage to 20-17 early in the second half, but India responded with a crucial super tackle and steadily wrested back control.
The contest remained on a knife-edge at 24-23 before India delivered the decisive blow, inflicting an all-out to open a 29-24 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
With their defence tightening and the raiders continuing to find points, India refused to allow Iran back into the contest and completed a memorable 40-34 victory.
The triumph secured India's ninth Asian Games men's kabaddi gold, further underlining its long-standing dominance in the discipline.
It also completed a golden sweep for India in kabaddi at Aichi-Nagoya, with the women's team earlier overcoming Iran 37-34 in another tense final to retain their crown.
India's men's team had won the kabaddi gold at the previous two Asian Games and the victory here ensured that the title remained firmly in Indian hands.
