Manush-Diya Stun World No. 4 Pair, Assure India Table Tennis Medal

Aichi-Nagoya, Sep 25 (UNI) — Manush Shah and Diya Chitale stunned Hong Kong, China’s world No. 4 combination of Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem 3-1 to storm into the mixed doubles semifinals and assure India of a table tennis medal at the Asian Games here on Friday.
The Indian pair prevailed 11-6, 13-15, 11-9, 11-5 in the quarterfinals, producing a strong response after narrowly dropping the second game to seal a memorable victory.
Manush and Diya started aggressively and took the opening game 11-6. The Hong Kong pair fought back in a tense second game, edging the Indians 15-13 to level the contest.
With the match delicately poised at 1-1, the Indian duo regained control, winning the third game 11-9 before closing out the fourth 11-5 to book their place in the last four.
The victory was particularly significant as Wong and Doo were part of the Hong Kong combination that won a bronze medal at the 2025 World Championships.
The medal is India’s second in Asian Games mixed doubles table tennis, following Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra’s bronze at the 2018 Jakarta Games.
It is also India’s fourth table tennis medal in Asian Games history.
The other Indian mixed doubles pair, Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade, exited in the quarterfinals after losing to China’s world No. 6 combination Lin Shidong and Kuai Man.
Manush and Diya will face China’s Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin in the semifinals later on Friday, with a place in the gold-medal match at stake.
