Nashik Rural Police SI killed, 4 injured in car accident in Maha

Nashik, Oct 18 (UNI) A Nashik Rural Police Sub-Inspector was killed and four people, including a police constable, sustained injuries in a road accident close to Saptashrungi Gad, Nashik, in Maharashtra on Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred near the Ane-Ane T-point at around 1:40 pm when a car, travelling towards Nashik, hit a two-wheeler approximately five metres before the T-point. The car then turned and collided with another vehicle on the driver's side.
Sub-Inspector Gaikwad and head constable Sachin Raut were deployed at Shaktipeeth Saptashrungi Gad to manage traffic and control crowds amid a heavy influx of devotees. The two police personnel were involved in the accident while on duty.
Barricades installed to divert traffic prevented the car from entering the crowd of devotees, potentially averting a major tragedy.
SI Gaikwad sustained severe fractures to his chin and spinal column and later succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. Head Constable Sachin Raut also suffered a fracture in his leg.
Among the other injured, Balu Patil (52), a resident of Mahape in Mumbai, sustained a fracture on his left leg, while his wife Tejaswi and Ram Gopal Eknath Sonawane suffered minor injuries.
The injured were shifted to a hospital in Nashik for treatment. Post-mortem examination of SI Gaikwad was underway at the District Government Hospital, while the two police personnel were receiving treatment at Magnum Heart Institute in Nashik.
The Superintendent of Police and the District Collector visited both hospitals to review the situation. Two police teams have been formed to trace those responsible for the accident. Immediate financial assistance is also being provided through the Police Welfare Fund.
The cremation of Sub-Inspector Gaikwad will take place in Nashik city.
The Nashik Rural Police force and the district administration expressed profound grief over the loss of their colleague, who died while performing his duty, and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
Authorities have appealed to citizens and devotees visiting crowded places to remain vigilant, follow traffic rules and strictly comply with police instructions.
