Ravikant Tupkar slams Maha Govt over Rs 5,000 aid to farmers, demands Rs 1 lakh per hectare

Buldhana, Oct 15 (UNI) Farmer leader Ravikant Tupkar on Thursday strongly criticised the Maharashtra government's decision to provide Rs 5,000 in financial assistance to drought-hit farmers before Diwali, calling it a cruel joke and demanding compensation of Rs 1 lakh per hectare.
Tupkar said farmers incur expenses of nearly Rs 1 lakh per hectare on cultivation, making the government's proposed assistance grossly inadequate.
He warned that farmers would launch a massive agitation across the state if the government failed to provide adequate compensation for crop losses.
Rejecting the Rs 5,000 assistance, Tupkar questioned whether the government expected farmers to manage their households, repay loans and celebrate Diwali with such a meagre amount.
"Is the government treating farmers as beggars by offering Rs 5,000? This is not assistance but an attempt to rub salt into their wounds," he said, urging the government to stop what he described as a cruel mockery of farmers.
Emphasising the contribution of farmers to the country's food security, Tupkar said the government must recognise their hardships and ensure that they receive dignified and adequate financial support.
In a sharp challenge to the government, he offered to give Rs 5,000 to its representatives and asked them to spend an entire year living on that amount to understand the difficulties faced by farmers.
He said farmers were struggling to arrange even two meals a day and questioned how they could manage their families' expenses with the proposed assistance.
Tupkar warned that farmers would rise in protest from villages across the state if their demands were ignored.
