Maha: School bus carrying around 50 children catches fire in Nagpur, all rescued safely

Nagpur, Oct 8 (UNI) A major tragedy was averted in Maharashtra's Nagpur city today after a school bus carrying around 50 children caught fire due to a suspected short-circuit near Wathoda Square on the Outer Ring Road, officials said.
According to preliminary information, the fire broke out in the front portion of the bus and quickly spread towards the rear, triggering panic among the students.
Displaying presence of mind, the driver immediately stopped the vehicle by the roadside, following which local residents and passersby rushed to assist in the rescue operation.
The children were evacuated through the bus doors and windows before the flames engulfed a major portion of the vehicle.
All the students were rescued safely and no injuries were reported.
Officials suspect that a short circuit may have caused the fire. However, the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
The prompt action of the driver and assistance from local residents helped avert a major mishap.
