Mumbai, June 4 (UNI) A major fire broke out in a cluster of scrap godowns at Chowdhari Compound on Khardi Road in Diva, in Thane district, destroying six warehouses owned by different individuals, officials said on Wednesday.
According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation, the blaze started late Tuesday evening in one godown and rapidly spread to five adjoining warehouses.
Firefighters responded swiftly with three fire engines, alongside personnel from Daighar police station and the regional disaster management cell. The fire was brought under control by 1:30 am on Wednesday, though cooling operations continued. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
This incident follows a similar fire that occurred on May 30 at a scrapyard in the Shil area of Thane. That fire broke out around 11 pm at Bablu Compound and affected five godowns before being extinguished by early morning. No casualties were reported in that blaze either, and authorities have launched an inquiry to determine its cause.
