Minister Mahajan says 12 of Jarange Patil’s 13 demands accepted, urges him to end agitation

Mumbai, Sep 16 (UNI) Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan on Wednesday said the state government has already accepted 12 of the 13 demands raised by Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil and urged him to end his agitation, saying the remaining demand could not be accepted within the existing legal and constitutional framework.
Speaking to reporters, Mahajan said the government has accepted almost all the demands concerning Maratha reservation, but could not agree to the demand to scrap the caste verification process.
“Jarange Patil is now demanding that the caste verification process be cancelled. This may not be possible. The government has to take decisions within the framework of the Constitution and must consider the interests of all sections,” Mahajan said.
He appealed to Jarange Patil not to insist on demands that could not be accommodated within the existing legal framework.
Mahajan said the government was committed to providing reservation-related relief to the Maratha community and had already taken steps to address most of the demands raised by the protesters.
The minister also said experts and researchers who had been involved in the long-standing struggle for Maratha reservation had acknowledged the legal difficulties involved in scrapping the caste verification process.
“Since 12 out of 13 demands have already been accepted, Jarange Patil should now avoid taking an extreme position and bring the agitation to an end,” Mahajan said.
The statement comes amid the ongoing agitation led by Jarange Patil over various demands concerning reservation for the Maratha community.

NGO urges Bombay HC not to permit protest by Jarange Patil

Mumbai, Sep 16 (UNI) The Dadar-based Amy Foundation, run by a certain Piyush Shah, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court here on Wednesday seeking a direction not to grant permission to Maratha reservation agitator Manoj Jarange Patil to protest in Mumbai, sources said.
According to sources, the petition filed by the Amy Foundation will be heard in the Mumbai High Court on Thursday.

Udhna–Pune Amrit Bharat Express to soon run via Nandurbar

Nandurbar, Sep 16 (UNI) The Central and Western Railway zones have approved the launch of a new Amrit Bharat Express between Udhna and Pune, which will run via Nandurbar, bringing relief to railway passengers in the region.
The train will depart from Udhna and travel through Nandurbar, Amalner, Jalgaon, Chalisgaon, Manmad, Kopargaon, Ahilyanagar, Daund Chord Line and Hadapsar before reaching Pune.
Passengers had been demanding a direct train connecting Surat and Udhna with Pune via Nandurbar for a long time.
