NGO urges Bombay HC not to permit protest by Jarange Patil

Mumbai, Sep 16 (UNI) The Dadar-based Amy Foundation, run by a certain Piyush Shah, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court here on Wednesday seeking a direction not to grant permission to Maratha reservation agitator Manoj Jarange Patil to protest in Mumbai, sources said.
According to sources, the petition filed by the Amy Foundation will be heard in the Mumbai High Court on Thursday.
The development comes even as Manoj Jarange Patil is expected to approach the Bombay High Court seeking permission to allow him to protest at Azad Maidan, with around 50 of his supporters, though no petition from Jarange Patil has been received by the Bombay High Court so far.
The Amy Foundation is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which claims to be dedicated to protecting public welfare and safety, and it had filed a petition in the court opposing the Maratha reservation agitation by Manoj Jarange Patil in 2025 as well.
In its latest petition, the Amy Foundation has stated that if permission is given to Jarange Patil to protest in Mumbai, public roads and public places may be closed, which will cause inconvenience to the general public which is celebrating the ongoing Ganeshotsav festival.
The Amy Foundation has stated in its petition that according to the Public Meetings, Protests & Processions Rules, 2025, protesters have the right to protest, but they do not have the right to inconvenience the general public.
Public roads and public places cannot be occupied and that too for an indefinite period, especially when there is a possibility of an indefinite number of people gathering for such a protest and hence permission must not be given to Manoj Jarange Patil to hold his protest for Maratha reservations, the Amy Foundation stated in its petition.
Meanwhile, Manoj Jarange Patil’s close associate Gangadhar Kalkute told media persons that Manoj Jarange will take the decision on whether to go ahead with his protest in Mumbai or not, adding that Jarange Patil's lawyers will respond to the letter sent by the Mumbai Azad Maidan police.
The Mumbai police has sought detailed information about the phone numbers, vehicle numbers and other details of the 50 protesters who are likely to protest along with Jarange Patil, in case permission for the protest.
So far, no petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking permission for Manoj Jarange Patil to hold a hunger strike at Azad Maidan, even as Jarange Patil’s health continued to deteriorate and his doctor has advised him against risking his health further.
However, sources said that there is a possibility of Jarange Patil's lawyers filing a petition for permission to protest under the provision seeking an urgent court hearing.
In a related development, senior Mumbai police officials reached the Bombay High Court and met Chief Public Prosecutor Shishir Hire and discussed the legal implications of allowing or disallowing Jarange Patil's protest, sources said.

The police is reluctant to grant permission to hold the protest, due to the possibility of the ongoing Ganeshotsav getting disrupted as well as the past record of the Maratha protest, when large numbers of Maratha protestors had occupied the roads, causing inconvenience to the general public.
Yet, the police is also preparing contingency measures to deploy additional police personnel and handle the pressure on the traffic system, in case the Bombay High Court gives permission for the protest, sources said. UNI BA SAS

Udhna–Pune Amrit Bharat Express to soon run via Nandurbar

Nandurbar, Sep 16 (UNI) The Central and Western Railway zones have approved the launch of a new Amrit Bharat Express between Udhna and Pune, which will run via Nandurbar, bringing relief to railway passengers in the region.
The train will depart from Udhna and travel through Nandurbar, Amalner, Jalgaon, Chalisgaon, Manmad, Kopargaon, Ahilyanagar, Daund Chord Line and Hadapsar before reaching Pune.
