Uddhav Sena accuses Fadnavis of using BJP man to fake crying farmer scene during drought tour

Mumbai, Sep 25 (UNI) Senior Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena leader Sushma Andhare on Friday accused Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of getting a former village panchayat samiti (village council) chairman of the BJP, to pose as a drought-hit farmer and cry before cameras of media persons, during his tour to inspect crop damage in rural Maharashtra.
“You ended your tour to a village in ten minutes. You called a former panchayat samiti chairman of your own party to hold you in front of the media and make you cry. Lights, camera, action. You have beaten even Modi at his own game. Please don’t do this. Don’t make a mockery of the drought situation,” senior Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena leader Sushma Andhare told media persons on Friday.
Criticising the crop damage inspection tour undertaken by Chief Minister Fadnavis, Sushma Andhare said, “Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inspected drought-hit villages yesterday, but he doesn’t know much about farming. It seems like his constantly sweet talking Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore never informed him about the actual situation of the farmers.
"Why did he delay issuing a government resolution (GR) on the drought for so long? Maybe Fadnavis will find it more auspicious to do it tomorrow”.
Sushma Andhare stated that it has been clear since quite some time that rural Maharashtra is reeling under a drought and the cotton crop got destroyed due to red blight.
Commenting on the drought situation in Solapur district, Sushma Andhare expressed deep sorrow after the suicide of a farmer in Barshi and gave an emotional appeal to farmers to look at the faces of their children before taking extreme steps like suicide.
“It has been 15 years since my own father passed away. My mother took care of us in extremely trying circumstances. This life is very difficult, but suicide cannot be a solution to any problem. Therefore, farmers should definitely look at the faces of their young children before taking any extreme step,” Sushma Andhare said.
She stated that Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray will be in Solapur soon to inspect the drought situation as part of his two-day tour of South Solapur, Latur, Nanded, Parbhani and Hingoli which is scheduled to begin on Saturday tomorrow from 10:30 am.
